As a little girl I had an aunt that made the coolest doll clothes out of scraps of fabric and what not.  She made a hat out of a bottle cap covered in wool and trimmed in fur to resemble a 1940's pillbox hat.  It just impressed me that she could take a piece of fabric and make it into something totally different and useful.  I wanted to be able to do the same thing.

 

Besides home economics in high school I found a wonderful designer, Cherry Barthel, under which to study.  In Kansas City I also had access to wonderful fabrics and textiles which just fueled my desire to hone my sewing and creative skills.  With Cherry's patience and willingness to pass on her craft, I learned the fine art of tailoring.
